Whispering Hope〈희망의 속삭임, 1868년 발표〉에 대해서...

"앨리스 호손(Alice Hawthorne)"의 이 곡은 여성 2중창, 듀엣(Duet) 곡으로서, 
소프라노,알토가 어울려 왈츠 풍으로 강약을 살려 부르는 곡 입니다. 
이 곡이 발표된 이후 50년 동안 무려 2천만 부의 악보가 팔렸다고 합니다.  



Alice Hawthorne
본명이 Septimus Winner인 Alice Hawthorne은
1827년 5월11일 미국, 필라델피아에서, 
아버지, Joseph Eastburn Winner,
어머니, Mary Ann Hawthorne 사이에서 출생.
1847년 11월25일 'Hannah Jane Guyer'와 결혼.
1902년 11월2일(75세) 그가 태어난 곳, 필라델피아에서 생을 마감함. 

그는 곡을 발표할 때 본명인 Septimus Winner 외에 주로 필명(筆名)인, 
'Alice Hawthorne', 'Percy Guyer', 'Mark Mason', 'Apsley Street', 
'Paul Stenton' 을 사용했는데 그의 가족들의 이름에서 인용해 사용한것으로 
추측되어집니다.

그의 대표 곡으로는, How Sweet Are the Roses(1850), I Set My Heart 
Upon a Flower(1854), What Is Home Without a Mother(1854), Listen to the 
Mocking Bird(1855),Abraham's Daughter;Raw Recruits(1861), Der Deitcher's 
Dog(1864), Ellie Rhee ; Carry Me Back to Tennessee(1865), What Care I?
(1866), Whispering Hope(1868), Ten Little Indians(1868), Come Where the 
Woodbine Twineth(1870), and Love One Gone Is Lost Forever(1870)등이 
있는데 이 곡들은 그의 필명중 하나인, Alice Hawthorne 으로 발표되었습니다.
